What is the mindset of a serial killer?

Have you ever imagined the reason why someone would find pleasure in taking the lives of other people?

How about those who engage in the dreadful act of robbery, risking their lives for some dollars?

Ok, let’s narrow it down to you, how come you enjoy yelling and inflicting pain on your children and wife from every slight provocation?

Now you’re saying “thank God, he’s not referring to me, I’m not married, I don’t have kids”, yet in your place of work, you inflate the prices of goods to get an excess which is siphoned to your pocket.

You rock yourself as a sharp guy…

Have you sat down to think of the reason why you cheat in exams?

Ok, now you’re a beautiful lady, you keep 10 male friends and demand a monthly up-keep of $30 dollars from them each, have you considered the reasons for your action?

When you observe carefully all the points mentioned above, then, you’ll understand that there must be reasons why people engage in these acts. Some would tell you it’s the environment they find themselves in, while others would say it’s the influence of the friends they keep.

Even armed robbers will explain the reasons why they went into robbery.

Some could be as a result of their family background, while others are motivated by love.

The point I am trying to establish here is that “there are reasons for every action.” So don’t be too quick in judging people, give them an opportunity to explain.

Let me share this short story…

I have a friend who grew up in a house where his mother engaged in prostitution to raise him and his sisters. Now when this friend of mine became of age, he took from his mother’s trade and engaged in pimping of girls.

You know what I mean by ‘Pimping of girls.’ Connecting girls to be used by men for money.

Also, his sisters grew up and became a prostitute, also taking after their mother, who was now a “MADAM” in the business.

So would you blame them?

Thank God he listened to my counsel, today he no longer engages in that dreadful act of pimping girls, and also he was able to influence his two sisters to stop the trade.

How did this happen?

I listened, understood, and figured out why my friend took those steps. I was not in a rush to criticize or condemn, rather I embraced, show them love, and lead them to the right path.

You see, people always have reasons for their actions.

Find out the reasons behind their action and you’ll be amazed at your discovery.

  • People Get Influence Genetically

What is genetic?

It is the transmission of inherited characteristics, DNA to species, isn’t it?

So a son of a singer is likely to become a singer when he grows up, take Femi Kuti, the elder son of Fela Kuti as a clear example.

Also, the son of a policeman is likely to become a Sheriff one day, so also the son of a tyrant is likely to become a dictator someday.

That’s the reality of genetics for you.

Some people have built-in characteristics and decision-making tendencies inside them passed on from their parents.

It might not manifest while they are kids, not until when they are fully grown up.

For instance, I am sure Femi Kuti, the son of the late Afro Music Icon Fela Kuti would have probably said he wanted to become a doctor when he was a kid.

I could recall in my tender days, I wanted to be an aeronautical engineer, I loved airplanes.

During my Junior WAEC, I did badly in most of the courses that would have landed me in the science class. Today I’m a freelancer and passionate writer. That’s the dynamics of life for you.

Genetics plays a vital role in how people think and behave.

  • Peer Group Influence on Peoples’ Action

During my childhood days, I had this set of friends who were all Muslims, we were so close, I spent virtually my after-school hours in their house, playing video games and they also visit my house too and we played video games a lot.

Now I was so used to them that on Sundays when I was to go for church service, I sneak and go over to their house, and we will play video games till when Church service closed, then I will return home and pretended I went to Church.

I know you laughing, it’s typical things kids do.

Also, my friends will sneak to my house some days when they are asked to go for Islamiat (Islamic Studies Lesson) and we would play video games till when it was closing time for the Islamic School, then they would return home.

You see how we both influence ourselves. That’s the power of peer group influence, the company of friends around a person influences the way they think and the things they do.

“Show me your friend and I’ll tell you who you are.” It’s very true, isn’t it?

You can hardly find a thief or pocket picker handout with a devoted altar boy or a priest. Neither can you see a musician having friends who are all footballers?

When you think of the action Mr. A took, then you should also consider his peer groups and the people around his life, because they play a vital role in his decision-making and the things he does.

If you happen to be a close friend to a thief, but you’re a decent young man, then you’re lacking the power of influence, you can refer to my article on FINE ART OF FRIENDSHIP; HOW TO WIN ANY FRIEND OVER.” This would be very resourceful because you need to influence your friends positively.

“To become a respected man, you need to wield the power of influence, most especially “The Power to Influence Yours Friends.”

  • Consider the Environmental Factor

I grew up in an environment where virtually every teen used alcohol, so yes I started drinking at a tender age. Most of my friends at that time also used alcohol. In the street where I grew up, we had about 8 drinking joints around that vicinity alone.

Surprised right?

I try to use myself as an example to portray that nobody is perfect in life, that’s the more reason why you should give people chances, by not judging them too quickly.

Even if you wanted to live a decent alcohol-free life, the environment matters, when you live in an environment where virtually everyone uses alcohol, you tend to see it as a normal way of life.

Environmental factors affect the way people think, behave, and the actions they take. You can’t expect a female child who grew up in a ‘Red Light District’ an environment where there are hotels, clubs, and hookers everywhere to live a decent life.

When you see some good-looking female hookers, don’t be judgmental, sometimes if you hear their stories, you’ll marvel at how much they have endured, and how broken they are.

A female child, who grows up in such an environment mentioned above, is likely to become a hooker.

The environment you find yourself in has the ability to influence who or what you’ll become in life. This shouldn’t be seen as a weak point, you can always correct the damages an environment had caused you.

Daily Truth: Muscle and Build up for the Work Ahead. BIBLE READING: Matthew 3:1-17

There is a defined work ahead of you, so muscle up. John the Baptist and Jesus came with mandates in their lives. And both completed their life assignments.

You also have a unique and private divine mandate in your life, such that only you can complete it. There is work ahead so, build up to acquire the habits and attitudes that will help you succeed in this life journey. Do these to succeed:

🎯1. Recognize your assignments early and face them. Matthew 3:1-2. In those days came John the Baptist, preaching in the wilderness of Judaea, [2] And saying, Repent ye: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand. John and Jesus recognized their assignments and stayed with them to the end. Get up and get to work to identify it.

🎯2. Dress and feed appropriately. Matthew 3:4. And the same John had his raiment of camel’s hair, and a leathern girdle about his loins; and his meat was locusts and wild honey. Depending on what your assignment is, there is the right kind of clothes to wear and healthy food to eat. If you are an engineer, wearing expensive jackets to work may not be appropriate – except at meetings. If you are into manual work, you need energy to work. So, eat right.

🎯3. Control your emotions and speak ONLY the right words. Matthew 3:7. But when he saw many of the Pharisees and Sadducees come to his baptism, he said unto them, O generation of vipers, who hath warned you to flee from the wrath to come?. Maturity is speaking the right words despite provocations.

🎯4. Bring forth good fruits. Matthew 3:10. And now also the axe is laid unto the root of the trees: therefore every tree which bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire. Bearing fruits is good, but not good enough.

Bearing good fruits such as helping your company make profits, passing your examinations, giving tithes and offerings, or buying gifts for your lover are all good, but do them the right way.

🎯5. Stay within your lane and remain humble. Matthew 3:11. I indeed baptize you with water unto repentance: but he that cometh after me is mightier than I, whose shoes I am not worthy to bear: he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost, and with fire: No matter what you have achieved in life or who you think you are, please STAY HUMBLE.

There is really no real competition in the journey of life when you stay within your lane. Most competitions are the ones we created or signed up for.

👉🏾If you sign up for Olympics, then you must compete against others who also signed up for the same competition.
👉🏾But, if you stay in your divine lane in life, your only competition is with your past – how you can do better today than you did yesterday.

At any stage in your life, there are always people ahead of you and people behind you. No matter how fast you run, there will always be someone ahead of you or behind you. Yes, you may overtake a few, but still, there will be people ahead of you.

Here is the good news. Every single person has a different destination and will arrive at different times. This is life. Stop creating competitions you do not need. Stay in your lane.

🎯6. Stay fruitful as fruitfulness is a divine preservative. Matthew 3:12. Whose fan is in his hand, and he will throughly purge his floor, and gather his wheat into the garner; but he will burn up the chaff with unquenchable fire. Many have lost their jobs, relationships, and career because they either were fruitless or stopped being fruitful.

🎯7. Get properly equipped with skills and power. Matthew 3:13. Then cometh Jesus from Galilee to Jordan unto John, to be baptized of him. Do not assume it, go for the right empowerment. Get baptized. Get filled in the Holy Spirit.

🎯8. Respect those in authorities. Matthew 3:14-15. But John forbad him, saying, I have need to be baptized of thee, and comest thou to me? [15] And Jesus answering said unto him, Suffer it to be so now: for thus it becometh us to fulfil all righteousness.

Then he suffered him. Despite your age and endowments, respect and honour those who have what you need. If your boss, husband or someone who has what you need is younger than you, respect them.

Understand the times and seasons of life and enjoy your current status because until you pay the price of humility, your heavens may never open.

Matthew 3:16 And Jesus, when he was baptized, went up straightway out of the water: and, lo, the heavens were opened unto him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove, and lighting upon him:

And, until you do the needful, you may never hear the voice of your FATHER. Matthew 3:17. And lo a voice from heaven, saying, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased..

So, get to work. There is so much to do.

In today’s technology-driven world, there is no shortage of opportunities for banks and credit unions to innovate and improve the customer experience, starting with customer service. You see, customer service is a vital component of a quality customer experience because it directly impacts how your customers engage with your organization.

Customer service failures, such as an unpleasant interaction with a live service representative or a failure to address a customer’s pressing need, can easily become a black mark on a customer’s impression of your bank and sour the entire customer experience. To that end, it’s imperative that you not only look for ways to improve customer service in banks but to completely exceed customer service expectations.

1. Promote Financial Literacy Through Customer Education

According to a recent study from the Raddon Research Institute, financially literate customers are more profitable because “they are credit-driven and have a higher usage of depository products.”

That said, most Americans overestimate their financial literacy and are aware of surprisingly few financial literary resources, which means banks are perfectly positioned to step in and educate customers on financial literacy and profit from increased patronage in the process.

If developing your own program seems too tall an order, there are plenty of pre-existing programs you can recommend to customers.

2. Become a Trusted Advisor to Small Business Customers

The 2008 economic recession has, perhaps, made some small business customers more wary of banks — after all, small businesses felt the effects of the recession more severely than large firms, with as many as 170,000 small businesses shuttering between 2008 and 2010, alone.

Over 10 years later, those small businesses that were able to survive the financial crisis are still reeling from employee layoffs, slashed spending, and stalled plans for expansion. According to figures from the U.S. Small Business Administration, “The amount of small business loan originations plummeted by more than half during the crisis and has seen only a very limited recovery post-crisis, leaving small business loan originations down 40 percent from pre-crisis levels.”

We mention all of this to acknowledge that the way small businesses interact with banks has changed substantially. Gone are the days when a small business owner would confidently walk into their local bank in search of a loan; the small business owner of today is savvier, knows that they must be discerning, and expects to be courted by banks rather than the other way around.

In order to earn small business owners’ trust and loyalty, your bank must transition from lender to financial advisor by offering holistic services designed to help small businesses grow. For example, you could:

The goal is to partner with small businesses in such a way that you’re not just a lender, but a trusted advisor that plays a key role in their long-term growth. It’s also imperative that you continue to deepen existing small business relationships to protect this segment from moving to fintech and other digital competitors, such as Amazon or Facebook. In order to do so, you’ll need to consider how small business banking interactions need to change in order to fully leverage the possibilities of new technology.

3. Make Contextual Data a Core Component of Your Customer Service Strategy

With fintech firms such as Stripe, SoFi, and Avant edging in on their market share, legacy financial institutions must evolve or die — and that means embracing the strategies that made these startups successful in the first place. One thing that fintech firms do exceptionally well — which should prompt traditional banks and credit unions to take notice — is leverage contextual data. Contextual data refers to any information that provides valuable context to a person or event.

Contextual data can be used to identify behavioral patterns and causal relationships, which banks can then use to inform and enrich the customer experience. In fact, contextual data can be used to improve customer service in the banking industry by enabling financial institutions to develop custom products and services tailored to the needs of each individual customer.

For example, when faced with the challenge of collecting money from clients, Finnish-based small business digital banking startup Holvi responded by developing an electronic invoicing system that enables customers to “create professional-looking digital invoices that fill out payment details automatically and sends alerts to your phone when it gets paid, keeping you in the know at all times.”

Your most valuable source of contextual data is your customer base. You can use customer relationship management (CRM) technology to collect information on just about anything and everything customer-related, including:

  • Geographic location
  • Major milestones (e.g. graduating from college, getting married)
  • Purchasing preferences
  • Spending habits
  • Customer service history
  • Social media activity
  • And more

Each piece of information you gather can be used to create a detailed profile that provides a 360-degree view of the customer. These profiles can them be stored within a central repository in your CRM, so employees can easily access them to make more informed decisions when fielding customer service requests, developing targeted marketing campaigns, upselling and cross-selling products, and so on (more on this later).

4. Develop a Truly Omnichannel Customer Experience

Although it would be easy to assume that, given how attached people are to their mobile devices, banking is on a trajectory to becoming entirely digital — but the numbers say otherwise.

According to Reuters, 60% of Americans would still prefer to open a new checking account at a bank branch rather than through digital channels; perhaps even more encouraging is that Accenture reports that 86% of consumers intend to visit physical branch locations in the future, and desire face-to-face human interaction.

That isn’t to say, of course, that banks should prioritize improving branch locations over developing a digital strategy, but rather that it’s vital to blend traditional and digital components in order to create an omnichannel customer experience. To get an idea of the touchpoints involved in this type of experience, and how it improves customer service in banking, here’s how it works:

As you can see, Alexis engaged with at least a dozen different touchpoints — some traditional, some digital — over the course of her customer journey. And although her story is fictional, it isn’t outside the realm of possibility: A survey of nearly 5,000 retail banking customers revealed 22 unique touchpoints.

It’s imperative not only that you capitalize on as many of these touchpoints as possible to create a truly omnichannel experience, but also that you deliver exceptional customer experience every step of the way.

5. Provide Customers With Self-Service Opportunities

Customers: They’re doing it for themselves. Consumer self-service has become a booming trend across all industries, with 74% of customers reporting that they’ve used a self-service support portal in the past; another 81% reported that they’ve attempted to resolve issues on their own before contacting a live service representative.

Despite it being a clear competitive differentiator, the financial services industry has been slower than others to implement self-service capabilities and best practices. As a result, many institutions are missing out on valuable opportunities to reduce call center volume, provide 24/7 support, and improve overall customer service in banking. How, then, can your organization take advantage of this growing trend?

The answer to that question lies in your mobile banking app. In a world in which everyone seems practically glued to their smartphone, the benefits of mobile banking aren’t lost on banks and credit unions.

In fact, you’d be hard-pressed to find an institution that hasn’t developed its own branded mobile functionality. But just because mobile banking has become ubiquitous doesn’t mean that all banks are leveraging their applications as effectively as possible.

After all, the information stored inside your bank’s CRM can tell you all about who a customer is, and predictive analytics can make an educated guess about what they might do — but technology, no matter how innovative, can’t tell you what’s going on inside a customer’s head.

It only makes sense, then, to tap into the invaluable resource that is your customer base by asking them for regular feedback; in doing so, you can gain insight into whether their needs are being sufficiently met, what products or services they’re interested in, what their goals for the future are, how their experience can be improved, and more.

There are any number of ways to solicit customer feedback, but the most practical approach is to establish check-ins across all touchpoints. For example, if a customer were to contact your bank’s call center with a service request, the representative responsible for processing that request might close out the call by asking whether the customer had any additional questions.

And whether they were satisfied with the service they received. Or, you might program a pop-up featuring a brief (think two to three questions) customer service survey to appear on your website after a customer has completed a transaction. Each piece of data you’re able to collect adds to the rich tapestry that is your customer base and can help your organization make more informed decisions that enhance the customer experience.

8. Be Flexible and Open to Change

The financial services landscape is in a constant state of flux, with new trends emerging every day. In order to ensure that your organization delivers the best customer experience possible, you need to keep your finger on the pulse of the industry and remain flexible to change.

How to Customize Your TikTok FYP to Suit Your Needs

TikTok has a reputation for showing you exactly what you want to see, which can keep you scrolling for hours. Some users even claim TikTok knows them better than they know themselves since it’s shown them videos that helped diagnose their ADHD, autism, or other condition.

It’s thanks to the app’s powerful algorithm, that learns your behaviors in a way no other social media does. But what if your feed is not all it’s cracked up to be? If you find yourself bored with TikTok, we’re here to help fix it.

The Mystery Behind TikTok’s Algorithm

For the longest time, it was hard to know what made the TikTok FYP (For You Page) so engaging. The company refused to share its formula for success and left users guessing what made the app know their preferences so well.

However, in a blog post, the company finally agreed to reveal a bit of how TikTok recommends videos for you. It determined that “the best way to curate your For You feed is to simply use and enjoy the app.” It didn’t go into too much detail, other than the advice to follow new accounts and explore the Discover tab.

Later, in 2021, some documents about the algorithm leaked to the press. They revealed that watch time isn’t the only factor for recommendations on the app.

According to The New York Times, the equation for scoring videos and including them in your recommendations is a combination of “likes, comments, and playtime, as well as an indication that the video has been played.”

 

Even with this revelation, it’s not very clear why one video ranks higher than others, so people have tried to work out what helps your video appear on others’ FYPs.

From the other point of view, this same information can explain what actions will help improve your FYP to better match your interests.

1. Follow

The first thing you should do once you get on TikTok is to follow accounts that you find interesting. This will ensure you keep seeing those creators on your FYP, and it will also help the app recommend content in the same areas of interest.

2. Watch and Re-Watch

While watch time is not the most important factor, according to the leaked documents, it is still a factor. So when the app recognizes that you’ve watched something all the way through, it understands that you liked it. An even better way to stress your enjoyment is to watch the same video several times.

3. Press “Not Interested”

Just because you watch something until the end, doesn’t mean you have to resign yourself to more hours of the same content. You can tell the app that you didn’t like this, and avoid similar trends and sounds in the future.

To do that, long-press the screen, until a pop-up appears. Then press the broken heart icon that says “Not Interested”. The same button also appears if you press the Share button.

4. Like and Share

Additionally, every video that you like will enter a special library in your profile for later reference. You can choose to either keep this library private or make it public.

The Share button is a natural companion of the Like button. If you enjoy something enough, you may want to send it to your favorite WhatsApp group, or add it to your Instagram stories. You can do that with the Share button on the right of the screen.

You can also go a step further and hit Save to keep the video on your device, which will also help you to share it with people who don’t have TikTok on their phones. Both of these actions will signal to the app that you want more of the same content.

5. Add to Favorites

Not only will this help the algorithm serve you better content, but if you want to create your own content, this library can help you save ideas for later.

6. Comment

TikTok takes into account any form of engagement to help build better recommendations, which is why comments play a key role. You’ve might’ve noticed that many people comment with lines like “commenting to stay on this side of TikTok”. And if you want to see more of the same content, you should do the same.

7. Use the Discover Tab

Like Instagram, TikTok has its own Explore Page, called Discover. It shows trending hashtags and sounds and has a search option. If there’s something specific that you want to see more of on your page, use Discover to find it. Then proceed to like and share videos from that search, to really make it easy on the algorithm.

Support Your Favorite Creators

As you can tell from these actions, making your FYP work for you takes a bit of time and investment. This comes back to the company’s initial statement that the more time you spend on the app, the better it’ll work for you.

However, don’t forget that there are actual people behind the content you consume. So if you like, share, and comment, make sure you also do that to show your appreciation for their hard work.

Most experienced marketers will already have their own planning procedures and methods, but if you’re a switched-on marketer, your antenna will most likely be permanently turned on and you’ll be on the lookout for new perspectives.

This planning method is the first one I use whenever I need to make a plan, and it has proven to be effective throughout the (many) years I’ve used it. Without further ado, here are our simple steps to planning a successful marketing plan.

Situation

Regardless of the literature you read, the first stage in any planning process is to assess your existing condition in order to have a better understanding of your skills and the environment in which you operate before embarking on your route to World dominance.

Take the time to figure out what your strengths and weaknesses are. What holes exist, and how should they be filled? Are there any new services that need to be developed, or are those that aren’t operating as well as they should? Is it necessary to eliminate them or invest more money in order for them to succeed?

What about your competitors, on the other hand? What are their advantages and disadvantages? What are their strengths and weaknesses in comparison to yours? After that, you’ll want to see if there are any Opportunities or Threats in the market for you, so you can start to grasp your strengths and how they may be used to reach your objectives.

This is only a sample of the areas you should consider while developing your strategy. Make sure you’ve done your homework and that your strategy is well-founded.

Objectives

While it may seem self-evident, no strategy is complete without knowing what it is aiming to accomplish. To develop a strategy, you must first have a clear knowledge of the goals you want to accomplish. Otherwise, you’re just making a haphazard list of things you want to accomplish with no clear aim in mind.

Begin with a high-level vision of where you want your company to go in a certain time frame, and then break it down into a series of SMART Objectives that will help you get there.

Whether you’ve heard of SMART Objectives or not, It is always worth re-iterating that for Objectives to have any credibility or meaning they need to be Specific, Measurable, Actionable, Realistic and Timed.

Strategy

After you’ve examined your present condition and decided where you want your plan to take you, the following stage is to create the strategies that will bring you there. This is where we recommend segmenting your present market into a number of distinct categories.

Because these groups may respond differently to different marketing strategies, segmenting your market in this way allows different campaigns to target particular audiences with messages that will resonate with them.

It’s also a good idea to spend some time getting to know who your consumers or clients are as part of this process.

What is it that makes them tick? What do they like doing? What sources do they consult for information? What kind of message gets through to them? What may they use to discover you on Google? Understanding crucial features like these allow you to create comprehensive “Buyer Personas” and guarantee that your future marketing efforts are tailored to their specific needs.

We could go on and on about how you should go about designing your company’s strategy. At the highest level, Michael Porter stated that an organization could only follow three main strategies. These are some of them:

Cost Leadership – setting your organization apart with the cost of your product or service;

Differentiation – trying to attract customers by finding some point of differentiation from your competitors; and

Focus – following a niche strategy.

At a more day-to-day level, don’t overlook the need to develop specific strategies for specific areas of your marketing.  For example, when looking at your Marketing Communications Strategy make sure you devise ways to get your message to your chosen audience by developing strategies for each of the six main Marketing Ps:

  • Product (or Service)
  • Price
  • Promotion
  • Place
  • People
  • Process

Tactics

Tactics are just a list of all of the things you’ll do to carry out your strategy and, as a result, achieve your firm’s objectives. So, if you want to adopt an effective Online Marketing Plan, you’ll need a variety of tactics for your website, content, traffic generation (SEO, social, paid, and email), lead generation, and client conversion.

Plan

Action

With all of the hard work done, it’s simply a matter of putting it all together into one cohesive document that will enlighten everyone on how you plan to fulfill the goals your organization has set for you.

This Action Plan must define what will be done when it will be done, who will execute it, and how much it will cost. While you’re working on your action plan, figure out how you’ll report on each statistic so you can keep track of your progress throughout the year.

Control

As indicated in the previous point, it’s critical to track performance throughout the year rather than waiting until the end of the year to determine if you’ve met your objectives.

Not only will the management team want to see how their marketing investment is performing throughout the year, but you’ll also want to know if anything isn’t working as soon as possible so that you can repair it and get things back on track before it’s too late!

In conclusion

As you can see, a basic step-by-step approach to Marketing Planning may help break things down into much more relevant and doable phases. This method is much easier to follow, and it makes the procedure much less intimidating as you go. It’s not dissimilar to the traditional four-step strategic planning process, which asks four straightforward questions:

  • Where Are You Now?
  • Where Do You Want To Be?
  • How Are You Going To Get There?
  • How Will You Know You Have Got There?

The only significant difference is that in our approach, ‘How Are You Going To Get There’ is divided into Strategy and Tactics, whereas ‘How Will We Know We’ve Got There’ is divided into Action Plans and Control.
